Random Short story: The love in the eye of the storm

My uncle never married he was a different kind of man. He was a meteorologist. He was always out chasing storms. My mom always said he loved the chaos of it all. I never gave it much thought until the summer I went to stay with him. "Why did your mom send you here again during storm season? Does she not want to keep you?" I think he is making a joke. "She said i need to start taking life more serious and focus on my future. So i have no idea why she sent me to you." I smile I feel some what awkwardly as I look at all the picture on the walls of huge storms. "Right, Well there is your room. There is a storm coming this way in a few days. So I will be out, there is a shelter under the house where you will be safe." I look at him. He sounds slightly excited for the storm. I cant help but notice these pictures of the storm are different then any others i have ever seen in books. I'm not sure what it is. Most are in the eye of the storm, how he manages to get photo in that has always been a mystery to us all. I go to check out my room I lay down and get some rest.
Something about those pictures keep haunting me in my sleep. So i get up and grab them off the walls. I line them up in chronological order. I sit there four hours looking at them. The storm almost feels inviting. I feel obsessed now, what is it about these darn photos? I start to take them out of the frames. Pictures from behind them fall out. There is my uncle standing in the middle of the storms holding someone. In one of them they are kissing. Here my family thought he was gay and didn't want to tell us. Who is this mystery girl and why is she in the middle of the storm with my uncle? I hear the alarms sound off. The storm is hitting close to us.  I hear my uncle running through the house. I peak out my door and see him grab a gift. Why is he grabbing a gift in the middle of the storm? Is it for this girl? I run out of my room. "Take me with you." I yell. "I can't! I can't promise you that you will come back." I don't care i am way to curious now. "Who is she?" He looks at me and looks at the walls in the living room. "I don't have time to explain right now. If your going to come then come on." I run to the truck. He is driving like a mad man. Well others are flying the other direction he is drive toward the storm.  We drive up the winds are so strong the truck feels like it is going to flip. There she is in the middle of all the winds waiting. She lights up when she sees the truck. "Stay here understand?" my uncle tells me. I nod yes, I mean where i am going to go? He run out into the storm. The killer winds don't seem to touch him. He run into her arms. The winds don't seem to touch her either. I hear on the radio the storm is getting worse, people are getting hurt. She seems to be crying and my uncle handing her the gift. She kisses him and lifts up into the wind. "NO!" I scream she is going to die. But as she goes the storm comes to a stop. What is happening here? My uncle walks back to the car. His head down. I am freaking out a little. "Did she just kill her self?"  My uncle laughs "No she didn't kill her self." How did she not killer her self? "Your joking right she just flew off into the storm. I hate to be the one to tell you this but that leads to death." I put my hand on his shoulder to easy the pain. "She is the storm."  he looks at me waiting for my reaction. He is crazy or is he? she is all of the picture of the storm right in the middle. "OKAAAAAAY? Lets say i don't believe you. Convince me."  He sighs. "I might as well tell some one." His head low practically in his lap. "Yeah might as well."
"It started when i was 17 I met a girl on vacation in the islands. She was the most amazing girl i had ever met. She told me she loved me. So we ran off together, we left our families and everything we knew. We didn't make it far before her mother found us. What she was doing was agonist everything law of nature. You see she was the daughter of mother nature and father time. she was suppose to be learning about us humans so should would value our lives. So one day when she be came mother nature shouldn't kill all of us for fun or anything like that i guess. She fought with her mom giving up everything to be with me. So her mom said if that how she wanted it to be. She made her the eye of the storm. So when ever she is here in physical form a horrible storm hits, the longer she stays the worse it get killing many."  WOW. If i hadn't seen her in the storm i wouldn't of believed him. I saw her she was real and so i believe him. "Why don't you go with her?"  He sits there silently for a moment. "I might no survive. My body was go off in to many pieces kind of thing. There is a chance my soul would be with her but we aren't sure. So she doesn't want to risk it. But i cant keep living this way it has been 13 years of this." He seems so broken we go back to the house.
The summer is almost over and so is the storm season. There is suppose to be one more big storm. My uncle prepares of it and starts to pack his thing he going to the other side of the world for their storm season. How could he live this way? He seems like a part of him is missing all the time. I would risk it if i was him. Just for the chance at true love. I hear the alarms sound in the distance the storm is getting closer. He runs to the truck and i run after him and jump in. "Isn't true love worth the risk?" i ask him. He smiles. "Yes it is." We pull up to the middle of the storm and there she stands. "Here are the keys." He hands them to me. He runs out to her. She again is crying as she holds him. He lets her go and she starts to go up into the wind. I guess it wasn't worth the risk. My uncle waves at me and turns around running toward her and jumps holding on to her. Both of them get taken into the winds. He did it. I'll never know if he survived but i do know this was 20 years ago and we haven't had anything bigger than a rain storm.

Poem: may the sun bring change

Every day I wait through the rain
even on what should be sunny days.
Life feels like a haze.
Endless amount of days.
Never really sad but nothing to exciting.
Just the same old drab.
So I made a change.
I left the boring behind with the same.
I freed myself of the lame chains.
As exciting as it was.
Almost happy I feel.
It seem my heart is still withered away.
So as I smile I still feel the echoes of the pain.
Day by day it doesn't last.
and now I can even make myself laugh.
But i still long for the days where I could feel the sun's rays.

Series Wednesday: Timetopia Page 10

“What did you do?” I scream at Rev. “He had to die. He had a tracker, it was only a matter of time before they would find us.” I’m so mad at her. “NO he didn’t. We could’ve let him go. I don’t think he would have told and by the time he got back we would have been long gone.”  She laughs. “That’s not how it works in war.” War? Who is at war? “What war?” she shakes her head. “Come on we have to get to a main city. We have to ditch the van. Now that they have pictures of it. It’s only a matter of time until they catch up to us.” She is grabbing her backpack out of the van. NO more I am done with this! “NO! Okay things need to change now! We need to do something about your hair if we don’t want to be noticed! No more killing people unless you have to you understand me?!” Rev looks at me and smiles. I’m not sure why she is smiling. I feel a little bad for yelling at her, I have never yelled at any one before. “Okay I won’t kill unless I have to. However this was a have to. You might not see it right now but every choice I make is for the best. And I like my hair.”  I can’t help but laugh now but Rev has been right about everything. I just don’t agree with killing anyone. “You can like it all you want, but it’s a sign that you don’t belong here. If you’re willing to kill people so we aren’t found you should be willing to shave your head to not be noticed.”  Rev’s head turns so fast I thought it was going to fly off. “HOLD UP! What did u just say? Shave what? Because I know you’re not talking about my hair!”  It looks like she wants to kill me. “Yes your hair. You can wear a wig until it grows back, but you can’t keep it that red color.” She shakes her head. “Yes that’s fine but I can dye it. I don’t need to shave it, are you crazy?” Dye? I’m not sure what this is. “Is that how you got it this color? By dying it?” she looks lost. “Is that why all the old people have grey hair? They won’t let you dye your hair?” I look at my hair. I can’t imagine it that color. “What is dye? Is it changing your hair red?” She laughs. “No it’s just changing your hair color. To any color you want. Where I am from people want to keep their hair from turning grey or they just hate their hair color and so they change it.” I don’t understand some one not liking their hair color or caring that their hair turns grey. But it must be nice to have the choice to change anything you want to about yourself. That must be why the Five took it away to teach us to love ourselves the way we are. “As fun as that seems, how are you supposed to love yourself if you don’t even know what you really look like?” Rev looks at me. “Yea I think that’s one of the many things about home that’s messed up.” I look at Rev. Maybe this is why she is in Timetopia.

“We need to get rid of the van. Plus we are going to need to find another way to get around.” Rev is packing her back pack and popping the hood to the van. She has lit the engine on fire. She walks over to the motorbike and gets on it. “Well are you coming?” Rev looks at me. “Yea, how are we supposed to get a new car?” She laughs. “The same way we got the van. I’ll steal it out of town.” I laugh at her.  “Why would you steal a car? We can just go to the car dealer and tell them we need one.”  Her head turns and looks at me. “What? They just give you a car?” I laugh. “No you have to pass the driver’s test and then you get a car.” She sighs. “A test great. So we go to the DMV to take the test?” she is starting the bike. “No we go to the library. What’s a DMV?” she tilts her head with a smile. “Thank goodness they got rid of that! That is one great thing the Five did. The DMV was an evil place that stole time and made everyone who went in miserable. The people who work there hate their lives let alone their jobs. They hate to help people and follow pointless rules.” Wow this DMV place sounds horrible.  It must be why the Five got rid of it. Rev starts the bike and we are off to the next city. I can’t help but wonder if the Five know what happened at the Questions hall. What if it’s not them but just people who have lost their way. I wonder if I could get a hold of the one in our time and if they would have answers. Maybe my grandma will know. But for now, onto the city.

Random Short story: Grandpa's hourglass

My grandpa was a strange man. So no wonder he had a strange death. i could still remember him and my grandma fighting when i was a girl. That was before he left her, he said she was just to old minded for him. I am fully grown now and understand my grandpa want to stay young. Maybe that's why he died falling out of a plane. His parachute didn't open. What a not fun way to go. That wasn't the strange thing about it though. It was when they reported it to the cops. The man said it was a 40 year old man who had died but when the cops got there, it was my 75 year old grandpa body laying there dead. The cops were just as confused as the workers. Yes a very strange death for a very strange man.
"What did dad leave you?" i hear uncle Dan ask my mom. "I'm not sure Dan. Today is his funeral. We haven't gone over anything with the lawyer yet." I can hear the frustration in my mothers voice. My uncle Dan always wanted to be just like his dad. So he travels the world the way my grandpa did with out a care. For some odd reason he never seemed to have as much fun as my grandpa. I always felt like he was chasing my grandpa more than anything. "Mini did they say what was on him when they found him?" Mini is what every one in my family calls my mom. "NO DAN! Why don't you just tell me what your looking for and maybe its in dads things and i can tell you if i have seen it." Dan looks at my mom for a long time. "Do you remember when dad when to south america? When we were in high school. He came back with that hourglass necklace?"  My mom takes a deep breath. "Yes the one engraved with you live and die by the sands of time or something like that." My uncle is practically jumping with excitement. "Yes that's the one! where is it?" My mom shrugs. "I have no idea Dan i haven't seen it in years about the last time i saw dad. Dan walks away all upset. "Mommy what was great grandpa like?" I grab my daughter and hold her. I had her much to young and had to grow up fast, but she has truly made every moment worth it. "He was a man of mystery always traveling the world. I never saw him much. He was to busy having a life time of adventure." My little girl laughs.
15 years later
"Please sign here ms." i felt flattered he called me ms. I got a package in the mail. Strange i didn't order anything. Maybe its an early birthday gift. Its a good size box. I open it and there is a letter on top of a bunch of pictures on top of another box. I open the letter it seem to be from my grandpa, how is this even possible. "Dear Beth, Happy 40th birthday. I am writing you this letter the day before i die. You see i used up all my sand, so it is simple just my time. But i am passing on to you the greatest gift. It is time in a hourglass. There will be two in the box one to wear around your neck and the other to keep in a safe place. Put your blood on the sand and it will begin. Take the sand out of the big hourglass and for how ever it last you will be young again. But you only have as much sand is in the hourglass once your out your done. There is enough sand for you to live 120 years if you don't use  any of it. But be careful if you do. Youth can be addictive. Don't tell my son about this. He thought i would give this gift to him. But he has had a real chance at life, you however never got to be young much like me. So here is your second chance. love your grandpa." I cant believe what this letter just said. He must have lost his mind. I look into the box at all the photo of him. There are times and date over 30 years in the pictures he didn't seem to age. I look at all the adventures that his second chance allowed him to take.  I open the box inside and pull out the big hourglass the sand white but not dipping down, strange. But in all of the pictures of my grandpa he has the little one around his neck. So the real Question is am I will to live and die by the sands of time?

Series Wednesday: Timetopia page 9

With the motorbikes fast approaching I can’t help but wonder if they also have metal handles. I mean if they have guns. “Do you know how to drive?” Rev asks me. “Yes, I kind of know how to drive.” She smiles. “Take the wheel!” she yells as she jumps out of the driver seat. I can’t believe she just jumped out like that. I jump in the seat. Which is the gas pedal again? Why didn’t I listen to my dad as he was trying to teach me? Okay Ava you got this. Gas is the right pedal and the left must be the brake. I hear Rev messing with some kind of liquid behind me. I see the wellness checkers right behind us in my mirror. “Rev they are catching up with us fast!” I yell back at her. “Like on our bumper?” Rev replies. “No they haven’t jumped on the van yet. But they are going to catch up in… I would say a few seconds. They are probably going to use the blue stop on the van soon.” I push down on the gas pedal to go faster. “What is the blue stop??? And please explain in 10 seconds or less.” She is still moving around back there. “The blue stop is the blue ball they throw at your car and it shorts out your electric system and your car stops.” She sighs. “Okay then. That’s pretty self-explanatory. Do you know what a cocktail bomb is?”  I look back and she holding a glass bottle with a rag in it. She starts laughing and opens the back door.  The wellness checkers are right behind us and she lights the rag on fire. She has a big scary smile on her face. She throws it out in the open and it hits one of the wellness checkers. He instantly catches on fire. The other wellness checker tries to throw the blue stop at us. “Don’t touch it with your hand!” I yell at Rev as I hear him throw the blue stop. “What the…Okay won’t touch it!” I look back and see Rev catching the blue stop with her sweater. “Got it!” she yells. “Good to know! What now?” She laughs. “Don’t worry I got this!” I look back at her. She smiles at me and jumps out of the van on to the wellness checker. I hit the left pedal as hard I can. The van comes to an abrupt stop and I jump out. Both of them are on the side of the road. Rev is up before the wellness checker, it’s almost like she is indestructible. I run over to her.  The wellness checker is trying to get up, Rev walks over to him and kicks his helmet off him. I run up and grab her before she rips his head off. “Rev stop he is down.” Rev pulls away from me. “We need to find out how he knew where we were. If you can’t take this don’t look.” She walks over to him and I turn my back to her, I don’t want to see him get hurt. Why does it has to be this way?

“Stop!” Rev is half on him and has her knee on his chest. He isn’t talking. “Please let me try.” I ask her. “Fine, you try it. Be my guest.” How could I be her guest? I’ll let that one go. “Hi. I’m Ava. What’s your name?” He looks at me and then at Rev. “You better answer her or I get you.” She motions forward at him. “I’m Derek.” I smile. “Hi Derek, might I ask why are you following us?” He sits up. “Sure. I am following you under the orders of a head question master. There seems to have been a question taken from the question box before the fire. The question needs to be returned with the person that took it.” I look at Rev, I’m almost certain neither of us took a question. “We don’t have a question. We never took a question from the questions box. How did you know to follow the Van?” He pulls something out of his pocket. It’s a picture of our van. “The head questions master gave me this. Then pointed us in this direction.” Rev grabs the photo out of his hand. “They lied to you.” He looks lost. Rev doesn’t understand that we are taught as kids to never to lie. “Why would they lie to me?” Derek seems lost by Rev’s comment. “Because they don’t want to tell you the truth. Why else would someone lie?” He sits there with a disconcerting look. “How do I know you’re not lying to me?” Derek asks Rev, he has a point there. “Why would I lie to you I’m not planning on letting you live.” Me and Derek both look at Rev. What does she mean? She walks back to the van. “Look, just come back with me. If you didn’t steal the question it will all be cleared up.” Derek sounds so hopeful, but after everything I saw I’m not sure if hope is the best thing right now. Rev walks back up with the metal handle. “Do you have one of these?” she shows it to Derek. “No, what is that?” He looks just as confused as me. “You’re telling me you have never seen anything like this?” She already asked if he had seen it.  Why is she asking again? “No I haven’t. It looks like some kind of drill maybe?” she laughs. “No. It’s a weapon.” He looks at me. I’m not sure what this word is either so I shrug at him. “Rev what is a weapon?” She looks at me. “Want to see how it works?” He nods yes. The handle makes the loud pop noise again. Rev covers my eyes right away. “Come on we have to go.” Wait why is she covering my eyes? Why isn’t Derek talking? I pull her hand off of my eyes. There is Derek’s body, completely lifeless.

Poems: Nov 15,1991 The day my best was made.

To a love i have always had.
Today is your special day.
Even though we grew up with out dads.
You were so much of a man.

More then just my best friend.
Even when you were a young lad.
I love to the moon and back.
That's no statement, that's a fact.

Happy birthday on this blessed day.
For it is the day you were made.
I thank the heaven or who ever is above.
For they brought me you.
The truest of loves.

I know if you could see this you would hate.
but i don't care because you my best mate.
