Series Wednesday: Timetopia Page 11

As we drive into the city, Rev pulls off the road. “We can’t drive into the city on a wellness checker's bike.” She has a good point. She hides the bike in some bushes. We start to walk to town. “We should stay at the visitor center tonight.” I tell Rev. “How would that work? Don’t we need some of those bar-code things on the back of our necks?” I look at her. I’m not sure what our bar-codes would have to do with the visitor center. “All we have to do is go in and sign up for a room. We just have to tell them we are on our way to my grandma’s. Since I am not 20 or married I have no ID yet.  So there won’t be anything for us to show them, but we have to do something about your hair.” Rev stops me. “Listen to me, you can’t tell anyone where we are going. You are going to have to lie.”  I don’t like this. Why should I lie? I am not doing anything wrong. “Why? I don’t want to lie.” Rev takes a deep breath and rolls her eyes at me. “I’m going to tell you a saying from back home. You can’t trust anyone not even your pet, because if you stop feeding them, even they will eventually eat you. Okay? Good chat.” Rev starts walking again. What does that even mean?

Rev has her fake hair as we walk into town, we walk over to the visiting center. “So it’s like a hotel.” Rev shrugs, I’m not sure what a hotel is. She walks right into the visiting center and walks right up to the front desk. “Hi welcome. How many rooms are you going to need?” Asks the guy at the front desk. “Just one. There is just me and my cousin on our way to our aunts house.” The guys looks at Rev for a few seconds. “Okay one suite.” He hands her the keys. She smiles at him. “My name is Ron, if there is anything you need I’ll be the one to help you.” He smiled at me as he said it. Rev doesn’t seem to notice the little things, like the way everyone is kind. She is kind when she has to be but it never feels like it was taught to her like it was to us. We get to our suite. She pulls bowls out of her bag. “You want my hair color changed then you have to help.” She hand me gloves. She start pouring things into the bowl, the mixture turns dark brown almost black. “Where did you get this?” she laughs. “I brought it with me from back home. You don’t have this stuff here.” She starts to part her hair and has me evenly put what looks like mud on her hair.  She sits with it in her hair for a while and goes and washes it out. When she came back out her hair is brown and shiny. She has long brown hair now. “Are you happy now?” she asks. “Why did you have your hair that color in the first place?” She rolls her eyes. “Some stories are better not before bed. Let’s get some sleep and back on the road tomorrow.”  We hear a knock at the door. Rev grabs her knife and walks toward the door slowly. I run over to her and stop her. I walk to the door and open it. “Hello, I am responsible to let you know the day after tomorrow is Switch Festival. Here are the specific details. Enjoy your night.” It’s Ron the guy from the front desk, he hands me a paper with our itinerary for the festival. “Why thank you Ron.” I smile and close the door. Rev gets up and grabs the itinerary out of my hand. “Too bad we are going to miss this.”  I forget that she didn’t grow up here. “We can’t miss this. They shut down all the roads. There is no way out of the city until the switch is over.” Rev rolls her eyes “What is the switch? And why do they lock down the roads?” I stick my hand out for her to hand me the itinerary back. I sit in our sitting area and lay the paper out for her to see. “It’s the switch, we are getting a new one of the Five. It’s been a year since the last switch. So for a few days all of the cities are on lock down. Just until the Five get here, well the one in our time at least. So see here tomorrow the old one leaves and for 24 hours we are alone to have our festival without a Five.  Then the new one comes and it’s time to start anew.” She looks at the papers. “So you realize that there are only 5 right so there can’t be new ones or old ones because there is only 5. Just helping you with the math on that one. So we are stuck great.” I laugh. “But this is the most fun time of the year. It’s the start of the New Year. It’s the only time we can drink more than one glass of liquor a day it’s all you can drink.”  Rev smiles. “Okay so it’s New Years, maybe we could have a little bit of fun. Wait, you can drink?” I look at her. “Yes I am 17, we can start having a glass of wine at 16.”  Rev gets up and walks to her bed. “How do you know which one of The Five you’re going to get?”  What a strange question. “We don’t, that’s why the switch is such a big deal. We see who we are going to get. It’s exciting.” Rev’s eyes go to the ground… how strange.

Random Short story: The love in the eye of the storm

My uncle never married he was a different kind of man. He was a meteorologist. He was always out chasing storms. My mom always said he loved the chaos of it all. I never gave it much thought until the summer I went to stay with him. "Why did your mom send you here again during storm season? Does she not want to keep you?" I think he is making a joke. "She said i need to start taking life more serious and focus on my future. So i have no idea why she sent me to you." I smile I feel some what awkwardly as I look at all the picture on the walls of huge storms. "Right, Well there is your room. There is a storm coming this way in a few days. So I will be out, there is a shelter under the house where you will be safe." I look at him. He sounds slightly excited for the storm. I cant help but notice these pictures of the storm are different then any others i have ever seen in books. I'm not sure what it is. Most are in the eye of the storm, how he manages to get photo in that has always been a mystery to us all. I go to check out my room I lay down and get some rest.
Something about those pictures keep haunting me in my sleep. So i get up and grab them off the walls. I line them up in chronological order. I sit there four hours looking at them. The storm almost feels inviting. I feel obsessed now, what is it about these darn photos? I start to take them out of the frames. Pictures from behind them fall out. There is my uncle standing in the middle of the storms holding someone. In one of them they are kissing. Here my family thought he was gay and didn't want to tell us. Who is this mystery girl and why is she in the middle of the storm with my uncle? I hear the alarms sound off. The storm is hitting close to us.  I hear my uncle running through the house. I peak out my door and see him grab a gift. Why is he grabbing a gift in the middle of the storm? Is it for this girl? I run out of my room. "Take me with you." I yell. "I can't! I can't promise you that you will come back." I don't care i am way to curious now. "Who is she?" He looks at me and looks at the walls in the living room. "I don't have time to explain right now. If your going to come then come on." I run to the truck. He is driving like a mad man. Well others are flying the other direction he is drive toward the storm.  We drive up the winds are so strong the truck feels like it is going to flip. There she is in the middle of all the winds waiting. She lights up when she sees the truck. "Stay here understand?" my uncle tells me. I nod yes, I mean where i am going to go? He run out into the storm. The killer winds don't seem to touch him. He run into her arms. The winds don't seem to touch her either. I hear on the radio the storm is getting worse, people are getting hurt. She seems to be crying and my uncle handing her the gift. She kisses him and lifts up into the wind. "NO!" I scream she is going to die. But as she goes the storm comes to a stop. What is happening here? My uncle walks back to the car. His head down. I am freaking out a little. "Did she just kill her self?"  My uncle laughs "No she didn't kill her self." How did she not killer her self? "Your joking right she just flew off into the storm. I hate to be the one to tell you this but that leads to death." I put my hand on his shoulder to easy the pain. "She is the storm."  he looks at me waiting for my reaction. He is crazy or is he? she is all of the picture of the storm right in the middle. "OKAAAAAAY? Lets say i don't believe you. Convince me."  He sighs. "I might as well tell some one." His head low practically in his lap. "Yeah might as well."
"It started when i was 17 I met a girl on vacation in the islands. She was the most amazing girl i had ever met. She told me she loved me. So we ran off together, we left our families and everything we knew. We didn't make it far before her mother found us. What she was doing was agonist everything law of nature. You see she was the daughter of mother nature and father time. she was suppose to be learning about us humans so should would value our lives. So one day when she be came mother nature shouldn't kill all of us for fun or anything like that i guess. She fought with her mom giving up everything to be with me. So her mom said if that how she wanted it to be. She made her the eye of the storm. So when ever she is here in physical form a horrible storm hits, the longer she stays the worse it get killing many."  WOW. If i hadn't seen her in the storm i wouldn't of believed him. I saw her she was real and so i believe him. "Why don't you go with her?"  He sits there silently for a moment. "I might no survive. My body was go off in to many pieces kind of thing. There is a chance my soul would be with her but we aren't sure. So she doesn't want to risk it. But i cant keep living this way it has been 13 years of this." He seems so broken we go back to the house.
The summer is almost over and so is the storm season. There is suppose to be one more big storm. My uncle prepares of it and starts to pack his thing he going to the other side of the world for their storm season. How could he live this way? He seems like a part of him is missing all the time. I would risk it if i was him. Just for the chance at true love. I hear the alarms sound in the distance the storm is getting closer. He runs to the truck and i run after him and jump in. "Isn't true love worth the risk?" i ask him. He smiles. "Yes it is." We pull up to the middle of the storm and there she stands. "Here are the keys." He hands them to me. He runs out to her. She again is crying as she holds him. He lets her go and she starts to go up into the wind. I guess it wasn't worth the risk. My uncle waves at me and turns around running toward her and jumps holding on to her. Both of them get taken into the winds. He did it. I'll never know if he survived but i do know this was 20 years ago and we haven't had anything bigger than a rain storm.

Poem: may the sun bring change

Every day I wait through the rain
even on what should be sunny days.
Life feels like a haze.
Endless amount of days.
Never really sad but nothing to exciting.
Just the same old drab.
So I made a change.
I left the boring behind with the same.
I freed myself of the lame chains.
As exciting as it was.
Almost happy I feel.
It seem my heart is still withered away.
So as I smile I still feel the echoes of the pain.
Day by day it doesn't last.
and now I can even make myself laugh.
But i still long for the days where I could feel the sun's rays.

Series Wednesday: Timetopia Page 10

“What did you do?” I scream at Rev. “He had to die. He had a tracker, it was only a matter of time before they would find us.” I’m so mad at her. “NO he didn’t. We could’ve let him go. I don’t think he would have told and by the time he got back we would have been long gone.”  She laughs. “That’s not how it works in war.” War? Who is at war? “What war?” she shakes her head. “Come on we have to get to a main city. We have to ditch the van. Now that they have pictures of it. It’s only a matter of time until they catch up to us.” She is grabbing her backpack out of the van. NO more I am done with this! “NO! Okay things need to change now! We need to do something about your hair if we don’t want to be noticed! No more killing people unless you have to you understand me?!” Rev looks at me and smiles. I’m not sure why she is smiling. I feel a little bad for yelling at her, I have never yelled at any one before. “Okay I won’t kill unless I have to. However this was a have to. You might not see it right now but every choice I make is for the best. And I like my hair.”  I can’t help but laugh now but Rev has been right about everything. I just don’t agree with killing anyone. “You can like it all you want, but it’s a sign that you don’t belong here. If you’re willing to kill people so we aren’t found you should be willing to shave your head to not be noticed.”  Rev’s head turns so fast I thought it was going to fly off. “HOLD UP! What did u just say? Shave what? Because I know you’re not talking about my hair!”  It looks like she wants to kill me. “Yes your hair. You can wear a wig until it grows back, but you can’t keep it that red color.” She shakes her head. “Yes that’s fine but I can dye it. I don’t need to shave it, are you crazy?” Dye? I’m not sure what this is. “Is that how you got it this color? By dying it?” she looks lost. “Is that why all the old people have grey hair? They won’t let you dye your hair?” I look at my hair. I can’t imagine it that color. “What is dye? Is it changing your hair red?” She laughs. “No it’s just changing your hair color. To any color you want. Where I am from people want to keep their hair from turning grey or they just hate their hair color and so they change it.” I don’t understand some one not liking their hair color or caring that their hair turns grey. But it must be nice to have the choice to change anything you want to about yourself. That must be why the Five took it away to teach us to love ourselves the way we are. “As fun as that seems, how are you supposed to love yourself if you don’t even know what you really look like?” Rev looks at me. “Yea I think that’s one of the many things about home that’s messed up.” I look at Rev. Maybe this is why she is in Timetopia.

“We need to get rid of the van. Plus we are going to need to find another way to get around.” Rev is packing her back pack and popping the hood to the van. She has lit the engine on fire. She walks over to the motorbike and gets on it. “Well are you coming?” Rev looks at me. “Yea, how are we supposed to get a new car?” She laughs. “The same way we got the van. I’ll steal it out of town.” I laugh at her.  “Why would you steal a car? We can just go to the car dealer and tell them we need one.”  Her head turns and looks at me. “What? They just give you a car?” I laugh. “No you have to pass the driver’s test and then you get a car.” She sighs. “A test great. So we go to the DMV to take the test?” she is starting the bike. “No we go to the library. What’s a DMV?” she tilts her head with a smile. “Thank goodness they got rid of that! That is one great thing the Five did. The DMV was an evil place that stole time and made everyone who went in miserable. The people who work there hate their lives let alone their jobs. They hate to help people and follow pointless rules.” Wow this DMV place sounds horrible.  It must be why the Five got rid of it. Rev starts the bike and we are off to the next city. I can’t help but wonder if the Five know what happened at the Questions hall. What if it’s not them but just people who have lost their way. I wonder if I could get a hold of the one in our time and if they would have answers. Maybe my grandma will know. But for now, onto the city.

Random Short story: Grandpa's hourglass

My grandpa was a strange man. So no wonder he had a strange death. i could still remember him and my grandma fighting when i was a girl. That was before he left her, he said she was just to old minded for him. I am fully grown now and understand my grandpa want to stay young. Maybe that's why he died falling out of a plane. His parachute didn't open. What a not fun way to go. That wasn't the strange thing about it though. It was when they reported it to the cops. The man said it was a 40 year old man who had died but when the cops got there, it was my 75 year old grandpa body laying there dead. The cops were just as confused as the workers. Yes a very strange death for a very strange man.
"What did dad leave you?" i hear uncle Dan ask my mom. "I'm not sure Dan. Today is his funeral. We haven't gone over anything with the lawyer yet." I can hear the frustration in my mothers voice. My uncle Dan always wanted to be just like his dad. So he travels the world the way my grandpa did with out a care. For some odd reason he never seemed to have as much fun as my grandpa. I always felt like he was chasing my grandpa more than anything. "Mini did they say what was on him when they found him?" Mini is what every one in my family calls my mom. "NO DAN! Why don't you just tell me what your looking for and maybe its in dads things and i can tell you if i have seen it." Dan looks at my mom for a long time. "Do you remember when dad when to south america? When we were in high school. He came back with that hourglass necklace?"  My mom takes a deep breath. "Yes the one engraved with you live and die by the sands of time or something like that." My uncle is practically jumping with excitement. "Yes that's the one! where is it?" My mom shrugs. "I have no idea Dan i haven't seen it in years about the last time i saw dad. Dan walks away all upset. "Mommy what was great grandpa like?" I grab my daughter and hold her. I had her much to young and had to grow up fast, but she has truly made every moment worth it. "He was a man of mystery always traveling the world. I never saw him much. He was to busy having a life time of adventure." My little girl laughs.
15 years later
"Please sign here ms." i felt flattered he called me ms. I got a package in the mail. Strange i didn't order anything. Maybe its an early birthday gift. Its a good size box. I open it and there is a letter on top of a bunch of pictures on top of another box. I open the letter it seem to be from my grandpa, how is this even possible. "Dear Beth, Happy 40th birthday. I am writing you this letter the day before i die. You see i used up all my sand, so it is simple just my time. But i am passing on to you the greatest gift. It is time in a hourglass. There will be two in the box one to wear around your neck and the other to keep in a safe place. Put your blood on the sand and it will begin. Take the sand out of the big hourglass and for how ever it last you will be young again. But you only have as much sand is in the hourglass once your out your done. There is enough sand for you to live 120 years if you don't use  any of it. But be careful if you do. Youth can be addictive. Don't tell my son about this. He thought i would give this gift to him. But he has had a real chance at life, you however never got to be young much like me. So here is your second chance. love your grandpa." I cant believe what this letter just said. He must have lost his mind. I look into the box at all the photo of him. There are times and date over 30 years in the pictures he didn't seem to age. I look at all the adventures that his second chance allowed him to take.  I open the box inside and pull out the big hourglass the sand white but not dipping down, strange. But in all of the pictures of my grandpa he has the little one around his neck. So the real Question is am I will to live and die by the sands of time?

Series Wednesday: Timetopia page 9

With the motorbikes fast approaching I can’t help but wonder if they also have metal handles. I mean if they have guns. “Do you know how to drive?” Rev asks me. “Yes, I kind of know how to drive.” She smiles. “Take the wheel!” she yells as she jumps out of the driver seat. I can’t believe she just jumped out like that. I jump in the seat. Which is the gas pedal again? Why didn’t I listen to my dad as he was trying to teach me? Okay Ava you got this. Gas is the right pedal and the left must be the brake. I hear Rev messing with some kind of liquid behind me. I see the wellness checkers right behind us in my mirror. “Rev they are catching up with us fast!” I yell back at her. “Like on our bumper?” Rev replies. “No they haven’t jumped on the van yet. But they are going to catch up in… I would say a few seconds. They are probably going to use the blue stop on the van soon.” I push down on the gas pedal to go faster. “What is the blue stop??? And please explain in 10 seconds or less.” She is still moving around back there. “The blue stop is the blue ball they throw at your car and it shorts out your electric system and your car stops.” She sighs. “Okay then. That’s pretty self-explanatory. Do you know what a cocktail bomb is?”  I look back and she holding a glass bottle with a rag in it. She starts laughing and opens the back door.  The wellness checkers are right behind us and she lights the rag on fire. She has a big scary smile on her face. She throws it out in the open and it hits one of the wellness checkers. He instantly catches on fire. The other wellness checker tries to throw the blue stop at us. “Don’t touch it with your hand!” I yell at Rev as I hear him throw the blue stop. “What the…Okay won’t touch it!” I look back and see Rev catching the blue stop with her sweater. “Got it!” she yells. “Good to know! What now?” She laughs. “Don’t worry I got this!” I look back at her. She smiles at me and jumps out of the van on to the wellness checker. I hit the left pedal as hard I can. The van comes to an abrupt stop and I jump out. Both of them are on the side of the road. Rev is up before the wellness checker, it’s almost like she is indestructible. I run over to her.  The wellness checker is trying to get up, Rev walks over to him and kicks his helmet off him. I run up and grab her before she rips his head off. “Rev stop he is down.” Rev pulls away from me. “We need to find out how he knew where we were. If you can’t take this don’t look.” She walks over to him and I turn my back to her, I don’t want to see him get hurt. Why does it has to be this way?

“Stop!” Rev is half on him and has her knee on his chest. He isn’t talking. “Please let me try.” I ask her. “Fine, you try it. Be my guest.” How could I be her guest? I’ll let that one go. “Hi. I’m Ava. What’s your name?” He looks at me and then at Rev. “You better answer her or I get you.” She motions forward at him. “I’m Derek.” I smile. “Hi Derek, might I ask why are you following us?” He sits up. “Sure. I am following you under the orders of a head question master. There seems to have been a question taken from the question box before the fire. The question needs to be returned with the person that took it.” I look at Rev, I’m almost certain neither of us took a question. “We don’t have a question. We never took a question from the questions box. How did you know to follow the Van?” He pulls something out of his pocket. It’s a picture of our van. “The head questions master gave me this. Then pointed us in this direction.” Rev grabs the photo out of his hand. “They lied to you.” He looks lost. Rev doesn’t understand that we are taught as kids to never to lie. “Why would they lie to me?” Derek seems lost by Rev’s comment. “Because they don’t want to tell you the truth. Why else would someone lie?” He sits there with a disconcerting look. “How do I know you’re not lying to me?” Derek asks Rev, he has a point there. “Why would I lie to you I’m not planning on letting you live.” Me and Derek both look at Rev. What does she mean? She walks back to the van. “Look, just come back with me. If you didn’t steal the question it will all be cleared up.” Derek sounds so hopeful, but after everything I saw I’m not sure if hope is the best thing right now. Rev walks back up with the metal handle. “Do you have one of these?” she shows it to Derek. “No, what is that?” He looks just as confused as me. “You’re telling me you have never seen anything like this?” She already asked if he had seen it.  Why is she asking again? “No I haven’t. It looks like some kind of drill maybe?” she laughs. “No. It’s a weapon.” He looks at me. I’m not sure what this word is either so I shrug at him. “Rev what is a weapon?” She looks at me. “Want to see how it works?” He nods yes. The handle makes the loud pop noise again. Rev covers my eyes right away. “Come on we have to go.” Wait why is she covering my eyes? Why isn’t Derek talking? I pull her hand off of my eyes. There is Derek’s body, completely lifeless.

Poems: Nov 15,1991 The day my best was made.

To a love i have always had.
Today is your special day.
Even though we grew up with out dads.
You were so much of a man.

More then just my best friend.
Even when you were a young lad.
I love to the moon and back.
That's no statement, that's a fact.

Happy birthday on this blessed day.
For it is the day you were made.
I thank the heaven or who ever is above.
For they brought me you.
The truest of loves.

I know if you could see this you would hate.
but i don't care because you my best mate.

Poem: When I'm away

I am letting the endless bullshit get the best of me.
I cant not eat
I cant not sleep.
I feel almost empty.
I gave my all to everyone involved.
Which in turn left me with nothing.

As it seems i cant get to my special place.
My one and only escape.
So i am drowning in sadness of reality.
No one really getting my pain.
But that's okay for that one i take the blame.

I will never be the type to sit there and cry.
Especially in front of prying eyes.
So i pretend to be strong.
Just like my mom.
Weathering each and every day.

So when you don't hear from me,
It not because I'm out having fun.
I'm just dealing with life in my own way.

Series Wednesday: Timetopia page 8

I wake up in the van. A few days have passed since my mom died or disappeared. I’m still not sure what happened. I haven’t said anything. I haven’t been able to stop thinking long enough to talk or eat. All I want to do is sleep. “Come on Ava you’ve got to eat something.” Rev is shoving food in my face. I push it away. “Fine. Sleep. We have a long ride ahead of us to your grandma’s house anyway.”  I sit up and look around. We are still on our way to my grandma’s? NO. I need to go home to my dad. He needs me now, with my mom gone. I get out of the van and I start walking back to my home. “Where are you going?” I hear Rev yelling from behind me. “I’m going home.” I yell back. “Home?” She grabs me from behind. “Yes home to my dad.” She looks at me and puts her head down. “You can’t go home. We have to keep moving forward. We have to go to your grandma’s house. That’s what your mom wanted.” How dare she talk about what my mom wanted. She didn’t know my mom. She doesn’t know me and I don’t know her. I push her off and keep walking. “Ava Stop!” Fine she wants me to stop, so I’m going to stop and I turn to her, “What do you know? Huh? You don’t know me! You don’t know my mom!”  I shout at her. “I do know your mom. I met her when you were just a baby.”  I look at Rev for a bit. She just doesn’t look that much older than me. “How old are you?” I ask her “I’m 23. Look Ava I’m just here to help you get to your grandma’s house.” There she goes again with my grandma’s house. “Why and who told you to take me to my grandma’s house?” She looks at me with her head tilt. “Who do you think? Your mom did.” I want to cry when I think that my mom has a plan for me. But why is Rev helping us? “Why are you helping us? I’m sorry but you don’t seem like the type to do something out of the kindness of your heart.”  She looks up at me and scrunches her noise. “You’re right, I’m not. There is a guy who did horrible things and he is hiding here in Timetopia. Helping you helps me to find him.” I just look at her because that makes sense. “Richard I’m guessing?” Her face changes, “Yes Richard. That son of a…..” she doesn’t finish her sentence. I’m not sure what he is a son of, but I need to know what he did. “Tell me what happened please.” I walk back toward the van. “Well Richard was my husband. We had been together since high school. I thought he was the love of my life… He was with me the day I graduated the academy, he was there when I was recruited special ops, and he even took my picture on my first day of the CIA. Richard isn’t like anyone you have ever met, he is charming with the most innocent smile. He can get you to tell him anything. He knew all of my secrets and my secrets weren’t just mine. He killed someone very close to me and ran here. Your mother knows how to find him, he is near your grandma’s house. So she asked me to take you to her and then I would get him.”  I have never seen her look sad before. “Was it your mother he killed?” I ask. She sighs, “The only one I ever had.”  I can tell she doesn’t want to talk about it. I hug her, I see I am not the only one who lost my mother here. “Why my grandma’s house?” She shakes her head and reaches into the car and pulls out the metal handle. She puts it in my hand. “Timetopia is a lie. This is a gun. There is a lot you don’t know. Your grandma has the answers. We need to get to her house. She will tell you everything you need to know.”  I am holding this gun in my hand, it’s heavy and cold. This is what made the pop noise and put the hole in Alexis’s head. There are a lot of lies going on here. I’m not sure how I can help, but I have a feeling that going home to get my dad will get him hurt. “Okay lets go.” I hop in the van.

“Can I ask something?” Rev laughs, “Yes of course.” I sit there trying to be sure to word this correctly. “What is the CIA?”  Rev looks at me. “It’s a company ran by rich powerful men, who make all the decisions for the country. I worked for them.” I look at her. I don’t want to sound dumb. “What does rich mean?”  She laughs. “You know rich… People with a lot of money which in turn means they have a lot of power.” Once again she says things that I don’t understand. “What is money? How does it give someone power?” She looks at me shocked. “OH shit this is why we haven’t had to pay for any of the food! Wait if there is no money, how do you pay for things?” I look around. I still don’t understand what she means. “Well maybe if you explain pay to me I can tell you how you do it.”  She drives silently for a few minutes. “When you guys go to work. How? Wait, I mean what do you get out of it?”  I don’t understand her question, “What do you mean? What do we get out of it? When we go to work, we go to help the community. We go to school to learn how to help the community and then one day when we are old enough they send us to where we would best serve.” She laughs. “So how do you buy your homes?” Buy? I’m not sure what buy is. “We are assigned homes. When you get married you get a home. You get assigned to a neighborhood with other newlyweds.  That’s your house until you die, unless you are barren. If you’re barren then you have to move into a neighborhood with other infertile couples with one bedroom homes.” She laughs again. “So you’re telling me they tell you where to live and if you can’t have kids they kick you out of your house?” That is a very crude way of putting it but yes I guess that is what happens. “Well you can’t have a three bedroom home for just two people. That’s gluttony. You must move into a smaller home.”  She rolls her eyes. “What if you have family or friends who want to visit?” Visit at your house? I don’t know why she would think that. “They would stay at a visiting center. Why would anyone stay at your house that doesn’t live there?” She laughs. I hear motorbikes behind us. She stops laughing and looks back. “Wellness checkers?” I look out the window. It’s definitely wellness checkers and they are catching up to us fast.

Random Story story: Should i hide the body?

*Ring ring ring* "Hello?" says  a very sleepy Alexandra. "Wake up i need you." with out even another word she knew who it was. That's the thing about best friends they don't need names or numbers in your phone. Just one word and by the voice alone you know who is on the phone. "Address." is all Alexandra says. "350 pine. Please hurry." She hopped in her car and went to get her friend. she pulls up and there she stand. "I didn't mean to but i killed him." Alexandra looked at her shaking friend. "We need to call the police." Alexandra suggest. "No they wont believe me on what happen he came after me, well he tried to." Alexandra knows exactly what they are saying. "They would be believe you if you don't speak out." Alexandra is just trying to help. "Come on get real. He is a star athlete and me a nobody. We aren't exactly on the high end of the food chain. And well you know there is the whole its me thing." K looks down. Alexandra looks at K. "The truth is better then any lie i will fight for you K. Rape is not a maybe thing. If he tried it isn't right, it is perfectly normal for you to put up a fight." K sits there thinking of the options, what to do? "Call your mom please Alexandra. She will be able to help." Alexandra smiles calls her mom and then the cops.
Alexandra and K told the cops everything that happened. The cops didn't want to listen, they couldn't believe that their star athlete could wanted K. Before you know it K was taken away, off to jail for murder. Alexandra couldn't believe what she was seeing. She really did believe the truth would help, her and her mother stood there hand in hand. "This is wrong, K didn't do anything wrong but yet this is happening." Alexandra mom hugs her. "Its time to take it to the most powerful people of all." Alexandra looks a little lost. "The Man?" Thinking her mom is talking about the jurisdictional system. "No to the public perception they decide everything."
Alexandra stand in front of the jail with cameras on her. "Today i am here to speak out on a great injustice happening here today. In there they are holding my friend K. K defend agonist a rapist and won. The rapist is now dead and K is on trail. It doesn't matter your beliefs on many things. Rape is wrong. The only reason K is on trail is because K is a man. The cops didn't believe him, that a seemingly straight football player tried to rape him. If K stood for Karen and not Kevin, this would be a different story. But because Kevin is the male, he is be booked for a murder. Wrong he is a victim and we need to stop victim shaming. Like i said no matter your beliefs Kevin fought back and did the right thing. He called the cops and turned himself in. Never let your personal beliefs cloud your judgement of what is right. Gay or straight no one has the right to harm your body. Thank you for your time." I wish to say Kevin was let go. but this isn't a prefect world and he is doing life. Alexandra often wishes she would of just helped K hide the body. For even if the younger generation understands, it is still the old generation in power and there is nothing yet we can do to change that. Just teach our kids that no matter your beliefs EVERY HUMAN HAS A RIGHT TO PROTECT THEIR BODY!

Series Wednesday: Timetopia page 7

“How are we going to make this fire?”  Rev asks me as she is looking at the screens. “You would need a controlled fire. The room your mother is in would be the hardest room to get out of if the front rooms are on fire.” Alexis explains as she points at the screens. I get up off the floor and pace back and forth. I look at the screens and it looks like they are on the same system as the wellness center. “What if we don’t need a huge fire just to make the system think there is a big fire?” Both of them look at me very confused. “How would we do that?” Alexis asks. I jump to the screens and start typing in the emergency codes. I’m sending a burst of electricity which shorts out the circuit board in the first hallway which makes it catch fire. Then I tell the system the whole building is on fire. The alarms start blaring and red lights are flashing from the ceiling.  “How long do we have?” Rev asks. “Not long we have to make it to my mom’s room now.”  I tell Rev she makes her way to the door. “You’re going to need a key card to open the door. I know these hallways backward and forward. I can help.” Alexis seems so hopeful. “Well then stop talking and help us. Let’s go!” Rev says as she opens the door. Rev goes first Alexis follows and points the way. Everyone is running from the building. The wellness checkers making sure every person is safe. We run down the hall and Rev Point at the room Alexis uses her keycard to open the door. I rush in the room, I see her cuffed to the wall. My mom’s hair is wet but not the rest of her body is dry. I see a bench and a bucket next to her. She looks like she is sleeping, her face is very pale. “Mom wake up.” I’m trying to pull her metal cuffs. I’m not sure what to do. “How do I get her down?” I scream at Rev and Alexis.  “I’m not sure. The managers are the only ones with the cards and well the five. The five are the only ones who don’t need keycards for the cuffs.” I pace back and forth, “Ava think of something fast! We are running out of time.” I don’t know what to do. “Ava prick your finger.” My mom whispers, she is awake. “What?” I get as close to her as I can. “Put your blood on the cuffs control panel.” I don’t have time to ask questions so I grab the knife out of Rev’s hand and cut my finger. I put my blood on the control panel. All the cuffs unlock and mom drops on to the floor. I scoop her into my arms.

“We need to go!” Rev says. “How did you do that?” Alexis face is in shock.  The alarms are getting louder. We start to run out. “STOP!” I hear someone yell behind us. “It’s a manager run!” Alexis yells.  We are almost to the open room where everyone else is running out. “I said Stop.” we here the manager yell. My mom isn’t moving as fast she seems weak. “GUN!” Rev yells, all of us stop running to look back. What is a gun? Everyone looks back and I see a metal handle in the manager’s hand. Out of the metal handle came aloud pop noise. Then another and another. Alexis dropped, she had a whole through her head. I don’t understand what happened. Rev runs toward the manager and takes him down to the floor. I turn back to my mom and she is on the floor. She is bleeding out of her stomach. This isn’t good, she is losing a lot of blood. “Mom. Come on you have to get up.” I’m trying to pick her up. “Ava you should have never came for me. You need to go on with Rev.” my mom isn’t getting up. “Mom I can’t run. They will just track me. There is no point, I will not leave you here like this.”  I’m not going to give up I’m trying to drag her out. “Ava you have no barcode.” I stop dragging her. “Yes I know mom I fell out of a tree fell on that branch and it cut my barcode and when I healed you couldn’t see it. I know mom.” This is nothing I haven’t heard before. “We lied to you. You have no tracker. We cut you to hide that you didn’t have a barcode.” I can’t believe what I’m hearing. Why don’t I have a tracker all babies have trackers. My mom is starting to fall asleep. “Mom! Please open your eyes!” she doesn’t want to open her eyes. “MOM!” I scream.  All I want is her to get up. “We have to go.” Rev says as she tries to pull me. “Rev what is happening? Why won’t she get up?” People are screaming around me. “We can’t do this right now. I’m sorry.” Rev says as she lifts me away from my mom and throws me over her shoulder. I don’t want to let go of her. I start trying to push off Rev. I look back at my mom and she is gone, she is no longer there. “Rev STOP she is gone! Where did they take her?” Rev stops and looks back. “We need to run. Trust me listen to me run to the van and don’t look back. GO!” Rev sounds scared. She puts me down and I start running. I hear the pop noise again. I make it to the van, Rev hops into the drivers seat and we take off. I don’t want to go, I just want my mom. How could I have made it this far and not save her? Who took her?
